Instrument exploration camps, jazz improv camp, and rock and roll camp -- We offer a number of ways for your kids to experience music this summer!
Ted Brown Music Outreach offers three summer music camps in Tacoma for kids and teens of all experience levels. Whether your child has never touched an instrument or is ready to play in a band, we have a program for them. Our camps are rooted in the South Sound community, welcoming youth from Tacoma, Puyallup, Lakewood, and across Pierce County. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.

Instrument Exploration Camp 2026

Ages: Incoming 4-6th Grade | Location: Tacoma, WA Not sure what instrument your child should play? This is the camp for them. Instrument Exploration Camp gives beginners a hands-on introduction to band instruments — guitar, bass, drums, brass, woodwinds, and more. Kids try them out, find their fit, and leave with the confidence and foundation they need to start school band in the fall. Small groups, experienced instructors, and a whole lot of fun. June 22-26 | 11:30AM-1:30PM: Learn basic piano and keyboard skills! ***THIS CAMP IS HELD AT OUR DOWNTOWN LOCATION; 2301 TACOMA AVE S.*** Percussion Camp A or B June 29 - July 2 | 9AM - 11:00AM or 11:30AM - 1:30PM Learn the basics of the snare, bells, and drum kit! Camps A and B are the same, just different times. Jazz Improv Camp 2026
REGISTRATION OPEN
Ages: 12-16 | Location: Ted Brown Music Tacoma, WA Tacoma's summer jazz camp for young musicians ready to explore improvisation. Students learn the fundamentals of jazz — listening, call and response, soloing, and playing as an ensemble. No prior jazz experience required, just a basic knowledge of your instrument. This is a great fit for school band students looking for something different and challenging over the summer. Jazz Camp A

Live It OutLoud
Ages: 12–18 | 8 Weeks | Location: Tacoma, WA
Live It OutLoud is Tacoma's premier summer rock program for teens. Students are placed in a real band with peers at their level and a professional musician mentor. Over 8 weeks they rehearse, arrange their set, record an album, and perform live. Now in its 14th year, Live It OutLoud has launched hundreds of young Tacoma musicians onto stages, into recording studios, and into a lifelong love of music. |
