Camp Overview
The camp will be consist of a series of music therapy-based exercises to address physical, voice & speech needs with people with Parkinson's as well as fine motor, cognitive exercise through learning to play the ukulele. And most importantly, nurture creatively and experience JOY through engaging in music-led exercises.
Rhythm uplifts you and helps you to become stronger and more resilient. We exercise for our voice volume, speech clarity, and breath support through carefully-crafted group vocal and singing exercises. We also work on balance, coordination, strength, and dual cognitive skills through rhythmically-facilitated movement exercises including drumming. Other music-making exercises are also part of the class helping foster social interactions and cognitive connections.
This 3-day Parkinson's camp also adds a special feature to learn how to play the ukulele! Ukulele is a versatile and accessible instrument for anyone who may want to try. In this camp, our music therapist introduces a few finger exercises that benefit dexterity coordination and strengths, as well as chords and songs so that you will enjoy playing the ukulele upon the completion of this camp.
Are you still hesitant to join because it's "music" therapy? No worries -- music therapy does not require you to have a musical background! This music therapy-based class is designed to help people with Parkinson's to manage or improve their conditions and well-being by engaging in structured music-based methods.
